One of Colby's passions in the military. He reads any books he can find on history & wars, watches documentaries on the military and hopes to be in the service one day. Knowing this, when my momma had a co-worker of hers, Guy Cordle, being stationed in Afghanistan for a couple of years, she set Colby up to be his pen-pal. Colby lined up for his class last year to send a care package and Colby would keep up with his status through e-mails. Guy had promised he would come meet Colby in person and talk to his class when he returned home.
Guy came home this spring and came to Walla Walla May 4. He spoke to several classes, including Dakota's, and shared what life was like in Afghanistan. He answered questions and made such an impression on the kids. He came to the house and spent time with Colby; of course, Colby dressed appropriately. That night in his prayers, Colby thanked God for his, "best day ever!"
I am so thankful for our military and those who are working all over the world to keep our country safe. I am thankful for families, like Guy's, who sacrifice their loved ones, to make life better for others. I am mostly thankful that God has touched Colby through Guy. Colby prays daily for those in the military and for our leaders. It is a special friendship that Colby treasures.
