Turkey season is here! Richard & the boys have been hunting hard for a few weeks now.
Dakota was able to spend his juvenile weekend hunting with Noni, my momma, in Idaho over Easter weekend. Since Pepaw, my step-dad Billie, was in Mississippi, mom was thrilled to serve as the guide. It was the first time Dakota was calling on his own and making all the decisions for the hunt. Dakota killed a long-beard on Momma's & Billie's land, which you can see in the pictures is beautiful, and was so excited! Momma said that is was some of the best memories ever spending that time with him and watching him enjoy that moment. Dakota said it was the adventure he expected it to be, and then some, and that he considered it now a new tradition for Noni & him each year.
Richard has taken the boys hunting here in Washington, but with snow STILL in the mountains around us, it has been tough. He did kill one and Buckley was fascinated with it when he was cleaning it at home. She insisted on using the decoy as "her turkey" in the pictures, letting it "eat grass" when it got hungry! Colby is great to take because even if they can't find the turkeys, he will find some treasure anyway. He found an elk shed that is beautiful and has some coyote teeth he removed from a skull they came across. Richard was grateful for the elk shed considering the smell of the deer antlers he was carrying until then!
Chandler is campaigning to get to go this year with Daddy so she may be the newest turkey hunter at home! The season continues for a few more weeks, so hopefully we will have more fresh meat in the freezer before its over!
